World of Warcraft Classes: Druid

· Back to World of Warcraft Classes List

Available Races: Night Elf, Tauren

Druids are the keepers of the world. Locked in slumber for generations, they awoke to meet the threat of the Burning Legion during its recent invasion. After Archimonde's defeat, the Druids chose to remain in the waking world and help to rebuild their shattered lands. The Legion's attack left a terrible scar on the natural order, and the Druids seek to heal it.

Druids are the swiss army knife of the casters in World of Warcraft. They will have the flexibility to fill any role needed in a party. Great healers and buffers, Druids also have a shapeshifting ability which allows them to take the form of a bear (warrior), a cat (rogue), a seal (for swimming), and a cheetah (for rapid transit).

Shapeshifting

Proficient in taking on various forms of life besides their own, the Druid is a very versatile character, able to react to various situations by changing their shape. While shapeshifted, the Druid will become unable to cast spells. However the forms are powerful enough not to require any spellcasting abilities, and the forms meant for combat come with their own skills.

Spellcasting

Druid spellcasting is based highly on a healing and damaging type approach. The Druid will be able to fill the role of a healer in any party, but due to his "jack-of-all-trades" type style, he will not have some of the more powerful heals available to priests. However, the aim is for the Druid to have roughly equal the raw healing power of a Priest, just with much less versatility. This should allow for both Druid and Priest to be suitable healer types for any group.

The Druid also features a number of offensive based spells for when he feels he needs to hang back and nuke his opponent. Spells such as Entangling Roots (players of Warcraft III will recognize this spell as a root-type spell which stops enemy movement) and Moonfire (direct damage spell) have been listed as part of the Druid's arsenal.

Balance encapsulates all of the Druid's offensive spellcasting. The Druid can only cast spells while in normal form. Balance includes damaging spells like Wrath, Moonfire, and Starfire, and crowd control spells like Entangling Roots (which roots the target in place) and Soothe Animal (which reduces the range at which a beast will attack). Additionally the Balance line includes an offensive buff, Thorns (which does damage when the Druid is hit) and a debuff, Faerie Fire (which decreases the target's armor and disables stealth and invisibility).

Skills: Entangling Roots, Faerie Fire, Moonfire, Soothe Animal, Starfire, Thorns, Wrath

Feral Combat or shapeshifting allows the Druid to change his or her shape into a variety of forms. Each form has special properties and some have additional abilities that can be used while in that form. The Bear Form and Dire Bear Form are similar to the Warrior class. While in these forms, the Druid receives a bonus to armor and hit points and can use various bear abilities like Maul and Growl. The Cat Form is similar to that of the Rogue class, complete with stealth (Prowl). While in cat form, the Druid's attack speed is increased and he or she can use various cat abilities like Claw and Shred. Feral Combat also includes two utility forms, the Aquatic Form, which can only be used in water and allows the Druid to swim more quickly and breathe underwater, and the Travel Form, which increases the run speed of the Druid. The Druid cannot speak to NPCs or use items like food or water while shapeshifted.

Skills: Aquatic Form, Bash, Bear Form, Cat Form, Challenging Roar, Claw, Cower, Dash, Demoralizing Roar, Dire Bear Form, Enrage, Growl, Man Tracking, Maul, Play Dead, Pounce, Prowl, Rake, Ravage, Rip, Shred, Swipe, Tiger's Fury, Track Humanoid, Travel Form

The Restoration line contains all of the Druid's healing and beneficial spells. The Druid can only cast these spells while in normal form. Healing spells include Healing Touch, Rejuvenation, Regrowth, and Tranquility. Restoration also includes a very powerful buff, Mark of the Wild, which increases armor and all stats for 30 minutes. Some other beneficial spells include spells that cure poison and remove curses.

Skills: Abolish Poison, Cure Poison, Healing Touch, Mark of the Wild, Regrowth, Rejuvenation, Remove Curse, Tranquility
